Middle last year many news agencies were talking about a hot topic in IT and financial world “SUN will be bought by IBM”. At that time all was a kind of gossip in It area. It was not to be. After that it was a big silence about this subject. I have subscriptions to many IT online magazines and I read the headlines almost every day.
I remember that many years ago (1098 – 2003) I was not quite happy when I was hearing about SUN because of its very aggresive policy against the “Open Source” software and community. As many others I was (and I am) fun of Linux OS.
In the last years something has change dramatically in the SUN top level decisions maker. They open to the “Open Source” and more than that they put on the market the “OPEN SUN”, a brilliant piece of OS. They took in their garden and improved the “MySQL”, one of the most used database on the market. You already find it in most of the network devices with home and small business destinations. I had many time the chance to meet professionals from SUN (business meetings, conferences, early breakfasts.. ) and I found more about the SUN culture. I was really happy that such provider is on the market. They give me the confidence that I can provide to my clients high class / quality services.
A few weeks ago I was talking with an ex-SUN sales manager. I was astonished to hear that SUN does not exists anymore and the decision to be bought has been approved into the financial world a few months ago. It was bought bu Oracle.
All respect for ORACLE but I really wander what will happen now with all the “top level” and high quality hardware and with the MySQL ? The ORACLE is the best in “database” and business solutions for database management but I just never hear nothing about ORACLE servers.
However, now on the market are four big boys alive (alphabetically mentioned):
Apple
IBM
MICROSOFT
ORACLE
Next please. (black humor)
