n 2009 Internet is getting into our lives more than ever.
Somewhere in the world more than 4,000 people took part in a Google conference. Someone can say “so what” and someone else may say that this event is the start of a new era of the Web.
I have received a new newsletter from an IT Magazine. I read it. Its end was not optimistic at all, it was something like this: “..who is crazy enough can to try and implement Google Wave following the link..” I clicked on it.
Next one hour and half I watched on You Tube the most relevant part of the Google conference.
Next, I enrolled in this system and accepted that I must change the company short and long term strategy.
In just a few words Google Wave may means:
- collaborative framework for communities. It includes restrictions and permission; centralised and entropic environment at the same time.
- advanced chat, forum, news systems.
- community web systems (entertainment website, it will include games servers).
- multilingual and real time talk (written) and wiki like data / web structure
Anyone can be part of one or more Waves, and can setup their own Wave (system / server). Google does not maintain this sytem. The wave system is maintaining, learning, developing by itself.
The list appears to be endless and the single limitation is the human mind.
From the point of view of what is inside, as far as I remember it seems that Google made a mixture javascript / java in the core. It was all started a few years ago and the skeleton of it is a huge database and has many virtual “gadgets” working together.
To accept to be taken by this “wave” or to stand up against, it is an issue of personal choice.
I remember that about 10 years ago I took part to a Microsoft seminar. They launched at that time the Windows XP. My first feeling was “it’s hard to use, too fancy, it is so different….” Last year many agreed that XP was the most successful MS product so far.
