Apple is again one step ahead its competitors, the procedure of restoring an apple computer based on Lion Mountain was taken to a new level.
The system was used and it is used in large corporation where tech support is very well organised. Wne a hardware crashed then a company or a tech person with hardware knowledge only replace the HDD with a new one (empty), connect the computer to the net and all is back in hours, it depends how big is the pipe (network connection)
This is what Apple has implemented into the new OS, Lion Mountain.
As you know it is highly recommended to have setup a “Time Machine”, can be a classic USB HArd Drive or can be a “capsule” – Wireless connection.
Having it it means you can restore anytime your computer to any previous date, it depends how big is the Time Machine, every hour a snapshot of changes is created automatically.
The problem may occur if the hdd is totally damaged so you cannot start the restore process. This is the point where Apple help even if you have no “recover usb created”:
“OS X Internet Recovery lets you start your Mac directly from Apple’s Servers. The system runs a quick test of your memory and hard drive to ensure there are no hardware issues. OS X Internet Recovery presents a limited interface at first, with only the ability to select your preferred Wi-Fi network and, if needed, enter the WPA passphrase. Next, OS X Internet Recovery will download and start from a Recovery System image. From there, you are offered all the same utilities and functions described above.” Find full details of the procedure on Apple Support Website
