A seconadry website – do you really need it?

It is proved that if the traffic on the company website increases then the number of potential buyers is increasing as well.

In the following scenario it supposed that a company has a website well done and the visitors of this website are looking to buy products and services offered by the company. For example for a food online shop visitors are looking to buy food products and are not trying to get information about what ingredients are used to prepare a salami in order to prepare it by themselves.

At this point of time the Internet is mature enough from “money/business” perspective. At the same time to buy a domain name is as simple as ordering a pizza over the Net. Because of this and  because a  domain name is pretty cheap (around $15/year) it is normal that many of us will buy many domain names. Everybody like to own as much as possible.

On the other hand a domain name which does not host a website is is absolutely for nothing. It is like a real shop hidden in a remote residential area, always empty and closed.

So many companies are on the following possition:

1.  They have a main website (main domain name) for example : mycomoany.com.au.

2. They have at least one not used domain name for example : mycompany.com.

3. They have a big question/problem to be solved;  what should be done about the secondary domain name ? There are three main options:

- to redirect all traffic from all secondary domain names to the main domain name using any automatic  redirection method. Please consider that no search engine will consider a redirected domain name as a source of information and basically, it has no point to do it unless you wish to “secure” the main domain name.  All domain name registration companies usually suggest you to secure your main domain name buying as many domain as possible with the same name and all “extensions” for example you should buy: mycompany.org, mycompany.info, mycompany.mobi and so on. It is normal you will pay more.

- to create “one page website” on the secondary domain name (to have a fake website) and send all visitors from this one to the main domain name using direct links. It is cheapper than having a full website but it was proved that you the number of clicks you get from this “fake website” is not relevant at all. Any small and static website will never get relevance for the  search engines and visibility on the Internet.

- to create a “blog /social network” website designed to work together with the main website of the company. This new website will be sometimes more complex that the first one, it will be more dynamic and it will get more visitors which will be directed to the main website of the company. Many of them will buy. If the new website is well done then the results will be unbelievable  good.

What a “social network / blog” website can do for a business?

The answer anyone can find easy if he just has a look on faecebook, youtube, yahoo, msn…. The order is not relevant.
